komoot GmbH
komoot is a mobile app and website for navigation and route planning for outdoor activities. It was founded in 2010 and has, as of March 2025, over 7 million monthly active users (45 million total) and is the leading outdoor app in Germany and other European countries.
I joined komoot as a Senior Backend Engineer in October 2021 and started in the Monetization squad, which handled all payment related areas as well as owning most of the premium features. In late 2024, I switched to the "Developer Productivity" squad, which was founded out of internal need from the backend team.
In March 2025 the company was bought by the Italian technology company Bending Spoons which laid off a large percentage of employees, including myself, in early April.

Dr. Klein Privatkunden is a financial intermediary for property loans, insurance and instalment loans for consumers. It uses Holocracy as it's organization scheme, which provides a unique way of influencing the decision making process of the organization. I worked in the Team "Plattform" to create a software platform that connects property-related partners like real estate agents and architects with customers.

eSailors is a software provider for online lottery platforms. They run a mutli-tenant, multi-language eCommerce platform with over 400.000 monthly active users. I worked in the "Games" area which provides the front- and backend parts for the actual lottery experience of the platform.

keeeb was initially developed as a platform to collect and share information (think Evernote/Google Keep/etc.) on the web. After a pivot we focused more on the enterprise sector as a tool for collective information gathering and knowledge storage. I worked here part time during my time as a student and later as a full-time developer.

After school I started an apprenticeship as IT specialist (Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration). I did network and phone system management, unjamming printers, user support and general IT related tasks. After I finished the apprenticeship early I also worked here for a few months until my bachelors study started.
